Natural Hot Springs – Chiang Rai is home to several natural hot springs. The springs at Pong Phra Baht are the perfect temperature for a relaxing swim followed by a walk to the nearby waterfall. Further afield, the Huai Mak Liem and Pha Sert springs can be considerably warmer. All these beauty spots are picture prefect and worth the time to see them.

Waterfalls – Waterfalls are always a popular attraction for those on a holiday in Chiang Rai. The larger the falls, the better. Khun Korn is the largest locally at 70 metres high, where the water falls into the river creating a perfect tropical scene that could easily be a postcard picture. The walk alone is an inspiring jungle trek with much to capture the imagination en route.

Fish Cave Temple – Take a guided tour through the dark passages of Fish Cave Temple or ‘Wat Tham Pla’. Located behind the main Temple, this cave is burrowed deep into the limestone cliffs. Inside, the cave houses a jeweled image of Buddha and beyond the 200 step climb to the exit, you will be greeted by an inspiring panoramic view of the jungles of the Golden Triangle region.

Buddha Cave – Tham Phra, the Buddha Cave, sits upon the bank of the Kok river. Accessible only by boat, this shrine houses a series of over 80 ancient Buddha images.

The King Mengrai the Great Memorial – Perched atop a white column against a backdrop of gold Lanna flags is the statue of Mengrai the Great. Built in memory of the former King and founder of the Lanna Thai Kingdom, the monument is a popular tourist attraction and a place of great significance among locals.

The White Temple – A more recent addition to the cultural stopping points in Chiang Rai is the architectural marvel that is Wat Rong Khun: the White Temple. The inspiration of a Chiang Rai native, this amazing structure encompasses many ideas, symbols and teachings from Buddhism. A must see attraction on any holiday itinerary.

Wat Phra Singh – Visit the Phra Singh Temple and gaze in awe at the intricate carvings and beautiful craftsmanship that went into creating and restoring this opulent building. Formerly the home of the Phra Sing Buddha image, the temple contains an extensive array of Lanna history and art.

Tram Tours – Through certain months of the year, Chiang Mai operates a free Tram tour service. Starting from the King Mengrai monument, the tour winds it’s way through Chiang Mai, passing many of the cultural and historic highlights. A great way to start your holiday experience.

Cycling – Cycling is one of the easiest and most fun ways to explore the city. Cyclists of all levels have somewhere to go, from the easy level ground of the city streets, to more adventurous cycle trails though hills and off-road paths. A superb activity to keep fit and see more of Chiang Mai.

Golf – Chiang Rai features two championship Golf courses, each located in an idyllic setting for a leisurely day out. Seasoned golfing veterans will enjoy a round at the 18-hole Santiburi Country Club, designed by Robert Trent Jones. Further out, a round at the Waterford Valley course will be equally rewarding.
